Forum: faqs Subject: How to change file format?

I'm having trouble changing the format of a realvideo (.rm) file I uploaded, to flash (.flv) format.

When I edited the item, I scrolled to the way bottom, selected "flash video" in the drop down list, and then scrolled back way top to click on "Item manager" and finally clicked "derive" button.

Then it said the rederive was "queued" successfully. But I don't see any live changes, even an hour later. When I goto the page:

It's still in .rm format. So I went back to edit the item, and clicked the "submit" button for good measure. But still nothing seemed to change. (Well on the item page it will say "Flash Video" on the left side, but it's still in RealVideo format, so that's not too helpful)

Any ideas on this process? I thought it would be simple enough (even though encoding I always know is a boar), but this seems to be less intuitive for me than I expected :(

EDIT: Is it because the "derive" process is still being queued? How would I be able to track that queue?

I think you're misunderstanding what that drop-down list of formats does.

All it does is tell us what format your file is already in. It does NOT determine what format it will turn into.

We don't derive any formats at all from Real Media files. So if you want a flash version of your movie, you'll need to convert it yourself - on your own computer - either into flash, or into a format that we do derive from.

Here's an FAQ that will tell you what we'll try to derive:
